Book Production Assistant

We are looking for two (2) Production Assistants to join our team.

Your contribution to the story
At Penguin Random House Canada, the book production team is fast-paced and essential, ensuring we create quality books on time and on budget. You’ll bring initiative, strong organization skills, and a collaborative spirit to your work each day. Reporting to the Production management team, you will collaborate with editorial, rights, design, printers, and other key stakeholders to deliver the best experience to our readers.
What you’ll do:
- Working within InDesign and Adobe Acrobat to create print-ready files.
- Liaise with editorial, operations, rights teams, and print partners on scheduling and preparing books for press.
- Provide general administrative support to supervisors; review and electronically distribute materials, as required.
Experience and knowledge you’ll bring (qualifications):
- A strong sense of curiosity about how books are produced.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (particularly InDesign and Acrobat) and MS Office (advanced skills in Excel would be a plus).
- Basic technical knowledge of digital print requirements and optimal file setup.
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects with competing deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills with acute attention to detail.
- An inclusive approach supported by cultural competency and a proven ability to collaborate with people from across a wide range of diverse backgrounds.
- Enhanced knowledge, awareness, and experience with the culture and history of any community that has faced marginalization are considered a plus.
- And of course, a deep passion for books!
We currently are permitting most employees to work from home, and so we are welcoming remote applicants from across Canada. However, applicants located within commuting distance of our Toronto office will be given preference for this role in anticipation of our eventual return to the workplace. For those who do want to work at the office, in order to ensure the safety of our colleagues and guests we currently have a mandatory vaccination policy in place.
