About the Department of AviationMount Royal University’s Aviation diploma program has been in operation since 1970. The two-year program operates eight aircraft at Springbank Airport along with three simulators. Students enter the program with a Private Pilot License and graduate with a Commercial Pilot License and Multi-IFR in addition to a Diploma in Aviation.
About the Role
Role and Responsibilities
The simulator instructor will oversee the flight simulator portions of the aviation flight training courses (FLTR) and curriculum for the Aviation Diploma program. The majority of the role will be conducting the simulator instruction. Most instruction will be one-on-one but will occasionally be up to 4 students at a time. The instructor will monitor progress and note areas of curriculum that need improving based on student results. Responsibilities include maintenance and operation of 3 simulators – 2 on campus and 1 at Springbank campus. Maintenance training will be provided.
The instructor’s direct supervisor is the Chair, and will also work closely with the Chief Flight Instructor. Most of the work will be at the main campus, but occasional travel to Springbank campus is also required.
Additional responsibilities include meeting with aviation industry members who are partners of the aviation program. Meeting with potential students and promoting the program with external visitors will also be part of the day-to-day work. Continued development of the two-crew training sessions in the simulator is also part of the role. There may be occasional topics that the simulator instructor will present to the entire class.
